Premier League Primary Stars

What is Primary Stars?

Premier League Primary Stars is a project that both Premier League and EFL clubs participate in up and down the country.

At Morecambe FC Community Sports, PL Primary Stars is used to deliver tailor made sessions to key stage one and two children within the wards of Lancaster and Morecambe. We work in partnership with the Premier League for the project.

For the Premier League’s Primary Stars Programme, MFC CS aims to develop the skills and ambitions of children aged five to eleven years old.

Primary Stars Sessions (Key Stage One)

At Morecambe FC Community Sports, our team of highly qualified coaches produce an array of session plans tailored to both key stage one and two children. Key stage one children may focus more on sessions based around their fundamental skills and creativity. Important fundamental skills such as their throwing and catching, decision making and different movements.

The Primary Stars sessions provide great building blocks for key stage one children and by the end of the intervention, which is usually six to eight weeks we aim to get them playing a sport specific that they might not have had the opportunity to play before. For example this could be a team game such as dodgeball, handball or basketball.

Primary Stars Sessions (Key Stage Two)

With the older key stage two children, the aim is for them to begin evaluating their own physical activity performances and how they can look at improving it for more success.

Morecambe FC Community Sports’ staff use real life examples in the sporting industry to encourage important life skills like teamwork, equality and diversity and also anti-bullying.

Positive Role Models

Throughout the past few years, we have also had Morecambe FC First team players attend and get involved in the sessions. This has been great for them to help guide the participants, whilst also seeing the work that goes on in the community. They also give the children some useful tips about playing sport and some of the valuable skills that they have learned during their time.

Aims of PL Primary Stars

The overall aim of the Primary Stars sessions is to increase children’s participation in sport and help them to learn some important personal skills. In addition to this, through the delivery of the Premier League Reading Stars project, we also aim to improve children’s confidence in subjects such as Maths and English.
