Utilita EFL Girls Cup

DATE: 2021-22 Season

VENUE:

Morecambe FC Community Sports' Utilita EFL Girls Cup for the 2021-22 season has engaged with over 100 under 13's Girls.

UTILITA GIRLS CUP

The Utilita Girls Cup is the other annual tournament organised by the EFL that takes place up and down the country at every football league club. It operates from the start of the school year and involves Girls under 13 in year seven and eight.

The competition builds up to a grand finale at Wembley during the Sky Bet EFL Play-off Final weekend in May.

Each EFL Club organises their own Girls Cup competition. Here Secondary Schools within their catchment area get invited to take part in the tournament. The final between the last two teams then normally takes place on the clubs home pitch during a first team game.

THIS YEARS’ COMPETITION

For the 2022 Utilita Girls Cup competition, at Morecambe FC Community Sports we had a total of six local high schools participate in the event. We had Ripley St Thomas, Central Lancaster High, Our Lady’s Catholic College, Carnforth High, Bay Leadership Academy and Morecambe Bay Academy.

The teams were split into 2 groups with every team playing each other once, with the top two advancing into the semi-finals. We were treated to some good football from all teams and the competition was strong. However, it was last years’ winners Ripley St Thomas and Bay Leadership Academy who made it to the final.

THE FINAL

Ripley St Thomas and Bay Leadership Academy had some real quality in their final between one another. In the end, it was Ripley St Thomas who secured a 3-1 win to make it into the next round of the competition against other winning teams at Preston North End.

Back in November, both teams went onto the pitch to receive their special pennants and have a group picture in recognition of all their hard work. We would like to give our thanks to the girls who took part in the EFL Utilita Girls Cup this year, and also all the teachers that put in the effort coaching their teams.

Ripley St Thomas will be representing Morecambe Football Club in the next round of the competition. This will be hosted at Preston North End on Thursday 13th January. They will go up against other Northern football clubs for a place in the next round.
