EFL Utilita Kids Cup

DATE: 2019-20 Season

VENUE:

Our EFL Utilita Kids Cup competition for the 2019-20 season yet again looks to engage with a target of two hundred boys and girls in years five and six from primary schools in the community.

UTILITA KIDS CUP

The Utilita Kids Cup is an annual competition ran by each club in the EFL. The tournament runs in a six-a-side format for boys and girls under eleven and culminates in three finals across the Sky Bet EFL Play-Off weekend in May.

The road to the final at Wembley starts when the new school year begins. Since the competition started in 2007, Morecambe FC have won an astonishing three times! A great achievement for the primary schools within our catchment area. St Wilfred’s Halton, Slyne with Hest and St Peter’s have all won the competition in the past eleven football seasons.

Each EFL club holds their own competition with teams from their catchment area, then their winning team goes on to represent the club in the next round of the competition- the Regional Finals.

THIS YEARS’ COMPETITION

At Morecambe FC Community Sports, this year we had a total of sixteen primary schools attend the event. This consisted of teams in the catchment area of Lancaster and Morecambe. Overall it was a successful event, with some great football on display!

Our two finalists this year were Greatwood and Slyne with Hest primary. They competed at the Globe Arena during half-time of the Morecambe v Cambridge United game on Saturday 25th January. The closely contested game ended in a 2-1 win for Slyne with Hest primary.

Slyne with Hest will now be playing in the Regionals to represent Morecambe FC at Port Vale, where it will be taking place. The Regionals will be taking place on Friday 13th March where they will go up against Northern EFL League Two Clubs including the likes of Carlisle United, Bradford City, Oldham Athletic, Salford City and Macclesfield Town.

Slyne will be looking to make history by winning the competition for the second time! On behalf of everyone at Morecambe FC we would like to wish them the very best of luck for the next round of the competition.
